Route 66 Week One

Week One

I want to share something with you that God put on my heart. This is not something we will finish in one meeting, so I broke it down into different teaching sessions. So today we will cover the first part of this series. As I was driving to work the other day, I heard the Lord say to me: “Route 66”. I said ok Lord what is that about. Now you may not talk to him like that, but I understand that he is right there with me and I try to respond when I hear his voice. So, I asked him what that was about, and he said … not one word. He didn’t respond. LOL. So, I drove on to work. As I was walking in the door at my job, I heard him say it again. I kind of laughed a little and said ok Lord, what is that about? Am I supposed to take a trip? He said, “Don’t get lost on Route 66.” I felt his presence and so I hurried to my desk and sat down and wrote it down. Don’t get lost on Route 66. Then I heard him say, there are 66 books in the Bible. At that moment my mind exploded as I heard him begin to say the following. Don’t get lost on this journey that I have you on. I have given you instructions to follow that will help you reach the final destination I desire for you which is heaven. 66 books to guide you. I said thank you Lord. And as I was trying to write the points, he began to give me He said read about Route 66. So, I googled it, and this is what I found.

Route 66 is a historic road in the US that started in Chicago, Illinois and ended in Santa Monica, California. Route 66 passes through a marvelous cross-section of American scenes, from the cornfields of Illinois all the way to the golden sands and sunshine of Los Angeles, passing by such diverse environs as the Grand Canyon, the Native American communities of the desert Southwest, the small-town Midwest heartlands of Oklahoma and the Ozarks, and the city streets of St. Louis and Chicago. Usually when people would travel down Route 66, they would get lost in the scenery and get off the route. It would take them longer to get to their destination and at times they never reached it because they got caught up in an off-road distraction. Our lives are much like traveling down Route 66. There are many distractions and side roads that we can get lost in. The Bible says in 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. The enemy only has these three weapons to distract us… Lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life. When he brings lust of flesh that is that first look at something in the world that he tries to use to draw us aside. We can look past this and keep walking with Jesus, but the lust of the eyes is that second look. This is where the voices begin… We say to ourselves, “wow, that looks nice… I think I want that.” If we look too long at this distraction and act on that second look, that is when the pride of life comes in and starts to speak up… In this stage of getting lost on our route we say to ourselves in our pride, “You know what, I’m a good person. I work hard and I deserve that. I’m going to get it.” At that point we are lost and off on a side road on our route. Let’s look at a few things that will help us on our way… As I was reading about Route 66, I heard the Lord say again, “Don’t get lost on Route 66 and then he began to give me the following instructions.

As you travel on your route there are Road signs telling you which way to go.

Let’s look at Psalm 37:23 says the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

Also, Romans 8:14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. When we follow the word of God and yield to the Spirit of God, we will find it easy to follow Him. The closer we get in our relationship with Jesus the easier it is to hear His voice and follow Him. In learning HIs voice and following, in walking and being willingly led by His Spirit, we become the sons / daughters of God. Just take his hand today and allow Him to lead you.

We will close for today right here and pick up next week with point number 2.
