his word in John 14:15, If you love me keep my commandments. In Matthew 22:37 & Deut 6:5 He has commanded us to love him with all our heart, mind and soul, and again in Luke 10:27 he stated we are to love Him with all our heart mind, soul and this time he added all our strength. We are to make an effort and put our all into our loving him. When you love someone you

Biblical definition of “HONOR”:

Honoring your father and mother is being respectful in word and action and having an inward attitude of esteem for their position. The Greek word for honor means “to revere, prize, and value.” Honor is giving respect not only for merit but also for rank. For example, some Americans may disagree with the President’s decisions, but they should still respect his position as leader of their country. Similarly, children of all ages should honor their parents, regardless of whether or not their parents “deserve” honor.

The Bible instructs children (all children, that includes me and you) to honor their mother and father in the natural. It doesn’t say honor they “good” mother and thy “good” father… it says honor thy mother and father so our days shall be long upon the earth that the Lord has given us… This is not only for our children this is for us as adults too… If our parents are here or if they have already passed on… We are to honor them. The word doesn’t state they have to be alive to receive out honor… We are simply instructed to honor them so our days shall be long upon the earth that the Lord thy God has given unto us.

There is another aspect to this… because we know that the natural always mirrors the spiritual. So therefore, this is also a call for us to honor our “Heavenly Father”. Throughout the Bible God (Jesus) is referred to as our Heavenly Father. This principle, no… correction.. this commandment (see Deut. 5:16) of honoring our mother and father also applies to our Heavenly Father. The definition of father is as follows:

Father: He who begets a child or in L. genitor or generator

Fathered: 1. Adopted. Taking as one’s own.

Ascribed to one as an author.

Fathering: ppr. Adopting; taking or

acknowledging as one’s own. Ascribing to the father or author.

To be “fathered” means to be adopted by a man that

becomes your father… Eph 1:3-6 says:

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Therefore, we are adopted and grafted into the heritage of God via this adoption according to vs. 5 & 6 above. Therefore, we are commanded to “honor our father… our heavenly father… God who was manifest in the flesh, Jesus Christ.” God set a standard in the natural that is mirrored in the spiritual. The enemy recognizes the

power of obedience and submission to the word of God. He knows the scriptures just like we do. His job is to kill, steal and destroy… But Jesus, (our father) came that we should have life and have it more abundantly. We can safely stand on this word when we honor our father. He said in

HONOR them in all you do. You never want to bring shame to them. So this scripture is not just for our children. It is for us as God’s children… Honor thy mother & thy father, so your days shall be long upon the earth that the Lord thy God has given you… Eph 6:1-3 says:

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

3 That it may be well with thee, and thou

mayest live long on the earth.

This tells us the importance God has placed on this obedience… There is a promise with it & it is actually in the scripture that it is the first

commandment with promise… the promise is if you honor your mother and father your days will be long upon the earth that the Lord thy God has given you. If we are commanded to do this unto our natural father and mother, then how much more should we do this with our Heavenly

Father? Even more, how much more would the reward and promise be from our Heavenly

Father than from our natural father. Matthew 7:11 says:

11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in

heaven give good things to them that ask him?

So let’s walk in obedience to the word of God and learn this principle… oh, wait… this commandment of Honor thy mother and father… both

natural & Heavenly, & walk in the promises that come with this obedience that God has for us.
