Build Your Own Fire

Lunchtime Live with ~*Sister Soldier*~ "Build Your Own Fire"

Let me start with the scripture found in Luke 22:54-62

Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off. And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them. But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him. And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not. And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean. And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

In this scripture we find Peter, after they have taken Jesus away, following "afar off". In our walk with Jesus we are told to seek his face and to run after him. We are taught about being close to our Lord Jesus and having a close relationship with him. I have found that at times, life comes in and pulls me in all directions. I find myself feeling "far from" Jesus because I get busy in ministry, work, family, etc. At times I have to stop what I am doing and "draw near" to Him. The voice of this world gets very loud when you are far from Jesus. Here we see Peter watching "Afar off" as Jesus is in the house of the high priest. In the next verse it says that in the midst of the hall, which was the outer courts of the high priest's house, they kindled a fire and sat down together. In vs. 54 the "they" were the men that took Jesus into the house of the high priest. In vs. 55 the "they" I am sure are these same people that took our Lord Jesus, yet here we see Peter now sitting down among them. Peter, I am sure, was shaken and didn't really know what to do because he was now afar off from Jesus and was broken by the events of the night. But as he sat there by the fire warming himself among the ones that took Jesus, the verse says a maid looked at him earnestly. That means she was studying him. How many know the enemy will study you and watch for a crack in the armor, or a weakness. The enemy will study you. He will watch you earnestly. As she was looking at him she said, "this man was also with Him." She recognized Peter and called him to the attention of the ones he was sitting with as a follower of Jesus. The enemy will try to make you feel as if you do not fit and mock you and challenge you when you try to "fit in". Peter stated he did not know Jesus. He was in the midst of the ones that took Jesus and in that environment he denied even knowing Jesus. The verse says "after a while" another said to Peter that he was one of Jesus' followers and again Peter denied Jesus. So he had been there among these people, listening to them talk about what was happening. Hearing the opinions and voices of the enemies of Jesus speaking against him. He sat with them. He warmed by their fire. He denied at this point Jesus, twice now. The words goes on to say after the space of about an hour another man said Peter was one of Jesus followers and even referenced him being a Galaliaen. The man brought out the fact of cutler and race. Peter this time, said Man, I know not what thou sayest. The account of this event in Matthew 26:73-74 the word says, "And a little later those who stood by came up and said to Peter, Surely you also are one of them, for your speech betrays you. Then He began to curse and swear, saying I do not know the man!" This lets me know that Peter had been there a while talking with these people that took Jesus. The guards and servants of the high priest's house. Even the kinsman of the high priest which was the guard that had been in the garden and had his ear cut off by Peter was there, according to John 18:26. So while Peter sat among these servants, guards and people that took Jesus and warmed himself by their fire. He participated in their conversations which is evidenced by them saying his speech betrayed him. He took part in the conversations about and against Jesus. He warmed himself by their fires and eventually took part in their conversations and ended up denying Jesus three times during the time he was there with them.

The events we are going through now with all that is going on in the world. We have social unrest due to racial divides. We have political unrest due to upcoming elections and political divides. We are faced with the virus and all the fear that is being bread on the internet, the news and in the political arena. We have been taken out of our normal life and thrown into a "new normal" as it is being called. We are unable to worship and go to church the way we normally would. We are separated from our families and church families and we have been overtaken with the conversations of the world. Just as Peter was overtaken with the conversations and the fact that he was afar off from Jesus and could not get to him. When Peter realized he had denied Jesus three times just as Jesus said he would the Bible says he ran out and wept bitterly. Peter came to himself at this point. I am saying today, it is time we come to ourselves. We can not allow this world and all that is going on to separate us from Jesus with distraction, fear, social and political unrest. This is the time to draw nearer to Jesus and stay full of the fire of God. We can't continue to warm ourselves by the strange fires of this world allowing the confusion and conversations of this day and age to lull our minds and hearts to sleep lest we be numbered among the "most elect" that the Bible says shall be fooled in the last days. We must stay full of the Holy Ghost to overflow so that the ones around us can still see, feel and find Jesus in, on and around us. I heard my pastor say that men don't go to an empty well to draw water. We must remember to step back from the conversations, and things of this world and draw near to Jesus again. We must build our own fire and encourage ourselves in the Lord, knowing that Jesus is always with us when we feel alone rather than clinging to the things of this world for comfort and information. Allow HIm to encourage you in your spirit that you may overflow to others. Allow God to fill you to over flow so that His agape love touches those around you. Don't allow this present day and the restrictions, fears, and opinions of this world to become a strange fire that you warm yourself by like Peter did. Stand firm on the testimonies God has given you.

Today I ask of you to allow the fire of the Holy Ghost to be the fire that warms your soul and encourages you. Stir up that power in you. The Bible says in Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost has come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. This tells me the power of the Holy Ghost is supposed to overflow in us as a witness to others. We must stir up that fire in us. Build your own fire with Prayer, Praise, and worship. Share testimonies not gossip. Share prayers not covid news today. Make today a turning point. Make today the day you decide to give fear and despair their walking papers. Make today the day you allow Jesus to come into your heart and stoke the coals & raise that HOly Ghost fire in you again. hell wants you silent, broken, scared and defeated. Jesus came that you may have life and have it more abundantly. So as your Sister Soldier, I say get up from that group and walk away from that strange fire you have been warming yourself by. (the TV, the news, the gossip mill on the internet.) Go back to that HOly Ghost fire and build your own fire. (pray, praise, worship, seek HIs face.) Stop right now, grab someone close and sing a praise song, call on Jesus, worship until He is ever present with you. Walk by faith not by sight. Now is the time to build your own fire and let it burn so bright that others leave this world's strange fires and join you. Return your focus to the things of God. Get your focus off masks, covid, sickness & death. Focus on Jesus, prayer, praise, worship & life. I hear God saying this sickness is not the end, not unto death but a wake up call to his people. We must turn our hearts to Jesus now more than ever.

So today, make a turning point. Yes Covid is real, yes it is bad. I am speaking from experience but I can also speak from experience that Jesus can and will heal us from it. I have had it and He healed me. I was sick for 17 days and Jesus healed me. If he will do it for me, He will do it for anyone. He is no respecter of persons. He is our healer, our provider, our protector, the lover of our souls. So let's get back to our first love. It's time to build our fires again. The devil has taken enough of our focus and imposed his spirit of fear over us long enough. Warriors, "arise" is my cry! Gather your materials for a fire! (Prayer, praise, worship, get into the Word of God. Read, fast, pray, seek His face.) Now is the time we must contend for our faith. I don't care how great or small your faith is. It only takes a mustard seed of faith. Walk in it now. Let your faith in God build a Holy Ghost fire in your soul again. Take some time today and search your heart. Search your soul to see where you are. Ask the hard questions. Are you more focused on the world and the conversations about the signs of the times or are you focused on Jesus? The word says in Prov. 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. It is time for us to lean to Jesus not this world. I pray that these words have helped you today as much as they helped me. I pray that God bless and keep you today and every day. May Jesus watch between me and thee until we speak again.
